MIDDLE EAST CROSS CULTURAL
 Itinerary, Spring 2012

JANUARY 9-13  ORIENTATION AT EMU Begins at 9:30 am in Commons 112

JANUARY 13 – 14 TRAVEL to EGYPT  Lv. Dulles 5:50 pm, LH 419 Washington Dulles – Frankfurt - Cairo          

JANUARY 14 – 24 EGYPT  Program arranged by MCC/Egyptian host, pyramids, Islamic Cairo, Orthodox Cairo, MCC, train trip to Luxor – Valley of the Kings (tombs, temples, Nile River boat ride, etc.)   

JANUARY 25 – FEBRUARY 1 JORDAN Program will include a day in Petra, the famous Nabatian city carved in stone, 2 days with Bedoins (camels, overnight in desert in Bedoin tent) time in Amman planned by MCC, and several renowned biblical and archeological sites (Mt. Nebo, Madabah).
                       
FEBRUARY 2 – 25  PALESTINE Program includes Arabic language study, home stays, contemporary issues, visits to biblical sites, Hebron, Jewish settlement, and lectures at Bethlehem University.

FEBRUARY 26 – MARCH 10 JERUSALEM – JERUSALEM UNIVERSITY COLLEGE PROGRAM Biblical archeology, geography and history with classroom lectures and field visits all over Israel, including the Negev, Masada, Dead Sea, Golan, Galilee and just about every other place in Israel of biblical significance.

MARCH 11 – 18 INDEPENDENT TRAVEL

MARCH 19 – 24 JERUSALEM Ecce Homo in the Old City Focus on Judaism ancient and modern, biblical and modern cultural/religious issues.

MARCH 25 – 31 KIBBUTZ IN THE GALILEE Contemporary Israel, issues, politics, war and peace. Program planned by Oranim. Stay on kibbutz, field trips, lectures, visits to Jewish communities.

APRIL 1 – 10 NAZARETH Nazareth Village learning and volunteering, hike the entire Jesus Trail, wrap up classes and begin “The Christian Movement in the Mediterranean.”

APRIL 11 – 15 ATHENS Group and individual exploration of cultural, historical, and biblical sites in Athens and Corinth.

APRIL  16 – 19 ROME Individual and group exploration of Rome, ancient and biblical sites, Roman Catholic church, culture.  Final debriefing, conclusion of study program, completing assignments, and all final exams. Prepare chapel presentation.

APRIL 20 – 23 INDEPENDENT TRAVEL IN ITALY

APRIL 24   TRAVEL to USA Arr. Dulles 2:55 pm, LH 414

            Rome – Frankfurt – Washington Dulles

    I hope that you have a WONDERFUL time in the Middle East! When I was at EMU I had a lot of friends that went on the Middle East cross cultural and they had a blast! I went to Africa for a semester for my cross cultural and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Enjoy yourself!!! I look forward to reading about your trip!

    Thank you so much! I totally forgot you went to EMU. That's awesome! A lot of my friends went/are going to South Africa for their cross cultural. It looks amazing, I'm sure you had a great time. :) Can't wait to share my experiences with you!
